A new luxury cruise ship will embark on its maiden voyages this August, offering travelers extended stays and unique routes across Northern Europe and the North Atlantic, highlighted by a rare celestial viewing.
Explora Journeys, the privately owned luxury ocean travel brand of the MSC Group, will launch the Explora III on Aug. 3, 2026, to sail from Barcelona to Lisbon before crossing the ocean.
The ship will travel through Northern Europe, Iceland and Greenland before reaching North America, featuring no repeated itineraries along the way, company officials said.
According to a company press release, the season is designed to provide “a more refined expression of summer travel” through cooler climates and longer stays in ports like Stockholm, Reykjavik and Quebec City. The Northern Europe routes will introduce new destinations for the brand, including Bergen, Norway; Riga, Latvia; and Tallinn, Estonia.

The company promises “immersive destination experiences” throughout the journey.
In the Norwegian fjords, guests can explore the town of Mandal by silent electric boat or ascend the Loen Skylift near the Briksdal Glacier.
As the ship crosses westward toward Canada, travelers can kayak along the Cabot Trail or explore the Mingan Archipelago before heading south along the Atlantic seaboard.
The voyage will conclude with stops in New England and New York City before arriving in Miami.

A focal point of the summer season is an Aug. 12 sailing positioned to view a solar eclipse, the first such event visible from Europe in 27 years. Science presenter Huw James and Helen Sharman, the first British astronaut, will join the cruise to provide expert insights on the cosmos ahead of the event.
“This sailing season is a uniquely rich moment in time where multiple dimensions of luxury travel come together,” Anna Nash, president of Explora Journeys, said. “From witnessing the cinematic beauty of a solar eclipse alongside world-class luminaries who bring science and adventure to life, to the profound serenity found in a more soulful navigation of the North, every element has been aligned to create a deeper connection with the world around us.”
The press release describes the journey as an opportunity to experience nature at its most restorative, calling the trip a natural expression of an “Ocean State of Mind.” The company stated the voyages will allow guests to explore destinations with rare ease, depth and refinement.
To further emphasize marine awareness, Lewis Pugh, the United Nations patron of the oceans, will accompany the trip and sail from Bergen to Copenhagen from Aug. 22 to 25. He will share his experiences as an endurance swimmer and advocate for marine conservation, officials said.
Explora Journeys’ new ship is an environmental wonder
The Explora III is the first ship in Explora Journeys’ fleet to be powered by liquefied natural gas, which the company says represents a step toward long-term sustainability solutions. The vessel also features advanced environmental technologies and shore power capability.
While the ship boasts environmental and sustainable features, the Explora III remains a luxury vessel with amenities that compete with other cruise ships in the sector.
Some of those onboard amenities include a Rolex “boutique-at-sea” with curated timepieces for purchase, and new dining options such as an extensive wine collection called The Cellar and collaborative menus at The Chef’s Table. The company noted the retail offerings will also feature selections from Cartier, Piaget and Chopard to reflect shared values of precision and craftsmanship.
“By bringing together immersive journeys, cultural depth and thoughtful innovation, Explora III redefines what a luxury summer opening can feel like … Only this one happens to cross oceans,” the company states in its press release.
The Explora III is currently accepting bookings for its Summer 2026 debut season with savings of up to $2,000 per suite on select journeys reserved before May 26. Booking information and deals can be found at explorajourneys.com.
