2027 Mediterranean cruises built around total solar eclipse and Cannes Film Festival

A new slate of 2027 Mediterranean yacht itineraries will feature specialized sailings timed around the opening of the Cannes Film Festival and an upcoming solar eclipse.

The program was announced Tuesday by VidantaWorld Voyages, the cruise division of a luxury hospitality and entertainment conglomerate.

The 2027 season consists exclusively of seven-night sailings spanning from April through September. A May 8 to May 15 itinerary includes a May 12 port call in Cannes, France, scheduled to align directly with the opening of the annual Cannes Film Festival.

The company describes this specific scheduling as offering guests a “front-row position during one of Europe’s most high-profile cultural events.”

Later in the summer, a roundtrip Aegean sailing from Athens is scheduled for July 31 to August 7. On August 2, 2027, the vessel will be positioned between Kalamata, Greece, and Chania, Crete which will provide “deep eclipse viewing conditions at sea under open Mediterranean skies” in an uncrowded, open-deck viewing environment.

The scheduled voyages will take place on the company’s vessel, Elegant, a luxury cruise ship underwent a deliberate capacity reduction from its original design of over 600 passengers down to 216 guests across 108 suites and staterooms. The Elegant features a nearly one-to-one crew-to-guest ratio, expansive public spaces, and residential-style accommodations with butler service in select suite categories, according to a company press release.

The new Elegant configuration is explicitly intended to create “a luxury resort experience at sea” with “one of the most generous space-to-guest ratios in the Mediterranean.” The company also characterizes the vessel’s redesign as providing nearly three times the physical space per guest when compared to traditional luxury vessels.

“We designed the 2027 itineraries around time—having more of it in the places that matter most,” said Ivan Chavez, executive vice president of VidantaWorld Voyages’ parent company. “From Cannes at the start of the film festival to the eclipse at sea, these voyages are built around moments that define a destination.”

    What is VidantaWorld?

The Mexico-based company, which operates hotel resorts and golf courses, and is in the process of developing a theme park alongside Cirque du Soleil, says its cruise line made its international debut in April with “a resort-forward approach to small-ship luxury cruising.”

“From the beginning, our goal was to rethink what luxury at sea should feel like,” Chavez added. “We took a ship originally designed for more than 600 guests and intentionally reimagined it for just over 200—because true luxury isn’t about adding more. It’s about creating space, ease, and a level of service that feels genuinely personal.”

In addition to the curated time on the ship, the company says these 2027 cruise schedules are explicitly built to maximize time in each destination with extended in-port times rather than moving quickly between various ports of call.

This includes late departures and overnight stays in ports such as Mykonos, Santorini, and Monte Carlo, alongside on-demand “tender” services—the process of taking a smaller boat from the ship to the shore.

“We want to show the Mediterranean at night, not just during the day,” Chavez stated in the release. “The most beautiful moments in Europe happen around sundown, and we thought it would be such a shame for our guests to only experience sunsets on the way out of Europe on their way to the next destination.”

Other planned voyages in 2027 include spring sailings from April through June covering Portugal, Spain, France, and Italy. Peak summer routes will focus on Italy’s coastal regions as well as Croatia, Montenegro, and Greece, officials said. Late-season voyages in September will return to Spain, France, and Italy.

Reservations for the entirety of the 2027 Mediterranean program are currently open.
