A cruise ship company promising permanent residency at sea is doubling its fleet as interest in acquiring a home on its first cruise ship remains high.
Villa Vie Residences announced Monday that its Odyssey cruise ship has already sold 85% of its available units. Now the experimental cruise line is adding a second, larger ship to keep up with demand.
The Villa Vie Legacy is expected to go into service in 2029, offering residences that are as much as 50% larger than comparable units aboard the Villa Vie Odyssey. Legacy will also featured larger dining venues, larger public spaces, and upgraded wellness facilities and other luxury amenities.
These added amenities and increased space has driven the estimated price of ownership on the Legacy to be about 30% higher than its sister ship.
With the debut of Legacy, Villa Vie company officials said there are plans to roll out a new ownership model for prospective buyers and current tenants aboard Odyssey, as well as offer easy transfers to Legacy.
The company previously introduced a $349,999 lifetime residency program called Endless Horizons. Any current members of the program, or those who buy in while available, will automatically receive permanent residency rights on the newer Legacy ship.
The Endless Horizons program provides permanent residential cruising through a one-time purchase price. Anyone who makes a new purchase can choose between Odyssey or Legacy without any additional purchase price, upgrade fee or transition cost, officials said.

For those who might be considering a permanent relocation to the sea, but are hesitant to wait until 2029 to begin life on the larger Legacy, Villa Vie is offering a very exclusive deal that will get you on board the Odyssey right away with the guaranteed right to transfer to Legacy once it’s ready.
Called the Legacy Bridge Program, the Villa Vie offering is available to the first 24 people to make new ownership purchases on or before Sept. 30, 2026. Those who are part of the Legacy Bridge Program can transfer to the other ship with no additional fees, and the company says it will honor the maintenance rates currently enjoyed on Odyssey—officials say the cost of maintenance on the larger ship will be greater simply due to its size and expanded features.
“The program enables participants to enjoy nearly three additional years of world travel aboard Odyssey while preserving the opportunity to relocate to Legacy upon its launch without paying the anticipated premium associated with the new vessel,” a company news release states.
How does a Villa Vie property work?
The Florida-based company is hoping to sell the idea of residency-at-sea as both cost-effective and experience-focused for those seeking a path to “home ownership” or simply looking for a constant stream of new adventures.
You can decorate your villa however you want, and you can even purchase an adjacent property to expand your own residence—at least, on the Odyssey.
Villa Vie previously announced a limited-time initiative targeting retirees, remote workers and empty-nesters, offering them discounted ownership rights to a villa unit on the Odyssey, starting at $99,999 (with monthly fees starting at $2,000 per person in double occupancy setups or $3,000 for solo travelers).
Villa Vie says that the purchased cabins can also be privately sold or rented like land-based properties, can be used as short-term rentals when you’re not using them, and come with trade-in or buyback options based on length of ownership.
Mike Petterson, Founder of Villa Vie Residences, said the initial goal when launching the Odyssey cruise ship wasn’t just to prove that the crazy idea of living at sea was feasible, but that it would be enjoyable and sustainable.
Now, company officials said consumers are buying what they are selling, with space already running out on the Odyssey, leading to this newly announced expansion.
“Our objective isn’t simply to build another ship,” Petterson said. “It’s to build a fleet that gives residents more choice while rewarding those who believed in this vision early. Legacy is the first step in that future.”
The official unveiling of the Legacy cruise ship will take place later this year during a celebration of Odyssey’s two years at sea. Renderings and floorplans will be released at a later date, officials added.
