A 137-room hotel promising sprawling views and uniquely curated spaces will open its doors on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles on July 15.
Public West Hollywood brings a 16,000-square-foot open-air rooftop terrace, interactive digital screens and a multitude of eclectic design elements that developers say are aimed to capture the attention of a new generation of travelers.
The hotel is the latest project from Ian Schrager, a boutique hotelier who gained prominence following his involvement with the Studio 54 nightclub in 1977. Schrager collaborated with British architect John Pawson to design the West Hollywood location, which marks his third venture in the city.
In a news release, Schrager said his career has been driven by a desire to explore new concepts in the hospitality industry.
“I’ve always sought to go where no one else has gone. To stand alone. To always be subversive to the status quo. To be rebellious, always break the rules, go off into uncharted territory, and blaze a new trail,” Schrager said in a news release.
Public West Hollywood has no shortage of amenities
Schrager’s newest property is situated within a landmark building that’s been painted in a custom luminescent white. Visitors enter through a 50-foot hand-sculpted privacy hedge and mature cypress trees.
Inside, the lobby features highly polished gallery floors, Venetian plaster walls and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking a landscaped garden. Company officials describe the lobby’s three art sculptures with magenta metallic finishes as a “reinvented and original reception experience.”

Promotional materials highlight a focus on high-end materials and unexpected amenities.
The lobby houses a tournament-size billiard table carved from a single block of marble, complete with 24-karat gold and sterling silver billiard balls. The adjacent library serves as a workspace and lounge, utilizing American black walnut on the walls, ceilings and floors. It includes communal tables with built-in outlets and an original chair crafted from recycled bronze.

The hotel’s pool deck centers on a 40-foot blue wading pool surrounded by French limestone pavers and fragrant jasmine arches.
A rooftop terrace, which officials call an outdoor private park under the sky, offers 360-degree views of the Los Angeles basin. The three-quarter-acre space includes a running track, an outdoor gym, firepits, a pingpong table and a 25-foot movie screen.

Guest rooms feature bleached ash wood floors, custom curved white plaster headboards and Egyptian cotton linens.
According to a press release, each room functions as a private screening room equipped with an 11-foot projection screen and a laser display projector.
Larger suites include fully equipped kitchenettes with custom cabinetry, a design choice company officials said blurs the distinction between a hotel, an office and a home.

The property also houses three distinct food, beverage and entertainment spaces. A gourmet market and luncheonette called Louis offers a farm-to-table menu alongside an antique mahogany table dating to the early 1800s. A separate club area, the Studio, features a private entrance flanked by oversized sculptural chess pieces, black stained oak flooring and interactive digital screens displaying subtly moving portraits.

Over the past five decades, Schrager has developed numerous hotels, restaurants and nightlife venues, focusing on creating spaces that reflect broader cultural trends. He noted that success in his field requires avoiding repetition and focusing on original execution.
“This is where the magic lies, where the total what’s created is more than the sum of the individual parts, and where completely unlikely and disparate elements come together to create something truly surprising, unique and that has never been done before,” Schrager said. “That’s the secret sauce and the pixie dust.”
Public West Hollywood is located at 8300 Sunset Blvd. in West Hollywood. Room reservations are currently being taken on the hotel brand’s website.
