Westin Hotels and Resorts has opened its first all-inclusive property in Mexico, following a multi-million dollar renovation of its existing property in Puerto Vallarta.
The newly rebranded Westin Playa Vallarta, an All-Inclusive Resort, is located along the shores of Banderas Bay just minutes from the city’s international airport.
Formerly operating as the Westin Resort and Spa, Puerto Vallarta, the hotel brand says the renovated property represents a shift in its hospitality model to meet growing market interest in comprehensive vacation packages.
“The opening of The Westin Playa Vallarta marks a significant milestone for Marriott International and for the Westin brand in the Caribbean and Latin America,” said Federico Greppi, president of the Caribbean and Latin America region for Marriott International. “As the first Westin All-Inclusive resort in Mexico, this property represents an evolution of the all-inclusive experience, one that stays true to Westin’s well-being ethos while responding to the growing demand for elevated, experience-driven all-inclusive travel in the region.”

The extensive renovation covered the resort’s 281 guest rooms, dining venues and wellness spaces. According to a news release, the property’s design incorporates open-air spaces, a reflective pool in the lobby, handmade ceramics and warm oak finishes.
Officials said the updated accommodations range from standard guest rooms outfitted with the company’s proprietary beds to expansive bi-level penthouses and presidential suites featuring private terraces and panoramic views of the bay.

The renovation also introduced new adults-only swim-up junior suites, which offer access to the new Playa Dip Club, a private social space with curated food and drinks. The resort also added sky pool suites with private plunge pools and family studios equipped with kitchenettes, Westin officials said.

Dining at the resort centers around an open-air gathering space surrounded by hundreds of palm trees called the Gourmet Gallery, which houses 10 different culinary and mixology offerings.
Dining options include a botanical cocktail lounge called Flora Bar, a refined Japanese dining experience called Tanto, and Call Me Lalo Taqueria, which was inspired by Mexican street food.
Other venues include Palma, which highlights Caribbean flavors, and an agave studio offering mezcal tastings with a bespoke bottle designed exclusively for the resort. Company officials said another venue, Sabia, will open in the coming months.
Westin shifts focus to wellness and restoration
“We are thrilled to welcome travelers to this new chapter in upscale all-inclusive travel,” said resort general manager Hugo Lecanda. “As more travelers opt for seamless, elevated experiences that nourish both the mind and body, we invite our guests to embrace a new way to experience Mexico’s Pacific Coast.”

To keep up with Westin’s current focus on wellness, the resort will provide programs designed to encourage physical activity and mental restoration, officials said. Guests can participate in sunrise yoga, paddleboarding, water aerobics, sound healing and coastal biking, or explore a designated running route along the shoreline of Marina Vallarta.
The resort grounds feature two redesigned pools, one reserved for adults and one for families, as well as newly added pickleball and padel courts. A full-service spa offers hydrotherapy and aromatherapy treatments, and the fitness studio provides state-of-the-art equipment.
Beyond physical wellness, company officials said the resort offers cultural arts and craft experiences. Guests can also book curated tours of La Zona Romantica, the famed cobblestone quarter in Puerto Vallarta known for its art boutiques and restaurants.
In addition to personal wellness getaways, the resort has more than 11,800 square feet of indoor and outdoor space for private events and corporate gatherings. According to a news release, these venues are framed by natural light and tropical gardens, designed to accommodate intimate celebrations as well as large wellness retreats.
