Avelo Airlines surpasses 10 million customer milestone

Travis SchleppBy Travis SchleppAugust 6, 20264 Mins Read

Avelo Airlines says it has surpassed a major milestone, flying its 10 millionth customer.

The low-cost carrier said it reached the milestone just five years after launching under its current banner in April 2021, becoming the first new U.S. carrier in nearly 15 years at the time.

Avelo CEO and founder Andrew Levy described the 10 millionth customer accomplishment as a “proud moment for everyone at Avelo.”

”It reflects the growing appeal of our affordable fares, convenient nonstop service, and commitment to making travel easier and more enjoyable,” Levy said. “As we celebrate this achievement, we remain focused on expanding access to air travel and delivering the reliable, convenient, and welcoming experience our Customers have come to expect from Avelo.”

Since its 2021 launch, Avelo has operated nearly 80,000 flights and hired more than 1,000 employees.

The company boasts that it leads the industry in reliability, including on-time arrivals and departures, and baggage handling.

”Avelo has successfully ushered in a new era of convenience, choice and competition by using smaller, less crowded airports in large metro areas, offering travelers a closer airport to start their trip, as well as savings in parking and other costs, in addition to Avelo’s everyday low fares on nonstop flights,” the company said in a news release.

What to expect when flying on Avelo Airlines

Avelo offers a reward program with various perks, and its pricing model is typical of the ultra-low-cost industry, allowing you to pay for the services and amenities you want.

The airline has a fleet that features 16 Boeing Next Generation 737, and in 2028 it will become the first U.S. airline to fly new Embraer 195-E2 aircraft that feature 140 seats in a two-by-two configuration with no middle seat.

Avelo currently serves 37 destinations across 15 states and Puerto Rico, although it did contract its entire West Coast operation last year to focus on expansion on the other side of the country—consumer boycotts over the airline’s involvement with Immigration and Customs Enforcement deportation flights may have played a role, too.

I covered that controversial decision at the time. The company, for its part, told me that any boycotts affected its business or precipitated the decision to discontinue its West Coast business.

Previously, Avelo held a West Coast hub at the Hollywood Burbank Airport in Los Angeles County. It also served some smaller cities on the Central Coast of California, Oregon, Utah, Montana, and Mexico, prior to its West Coast contraction and other reorganization efforts.
