Public transit agencies across California offered free rides and other perks on Wednesday, as the state observed California Clean Air Day.
The annual event is organized by the Coalition for Clean Air, and is meant to encourage individual action to reduce air pollution and protect public health.
Organizers say it’s the largest clean air event in the state, and more than 3,200 individual Californians pledged to take clean air action, according to the organization’s 2026 pledge tracker.

Of those who pledged to take action in support of clean air, approximately 2,800 said they would take alternative transportation or public transit on Clean Air Day.

For those who made that pledge, there were no shortage of public transit options across the state.
In support of Clean Air Day, dozens of California transit agencies joined the cause by offering free rides to encourage the use of public transportation.
