Golfer Tiger Woods was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after he was involved in a serious crash in Florida Friday, just days before a potential return to the PGA Tour.
The crash happened around 2 p.m. local time on Jupiter Island, according to ESPN, citing the local sheriff’s department in the area.
Woods’ condition was not immediately released, but ESPN later reported that Woods was arrested at the scene on suspicion of DUI. The crash allegedly involved another vehicle.
ESPN reports that Jupiter Island is also where the illustrious athlete lives. Photos shared by local media showed an SUV had rolled over during the crash. It was believed that the vehicle belonged to Woods.
The crash comes less than two weeks before the Masters at Augusta National Golf Club on April 9. Woods, 50, has experienced a bevy of serious injuries throughout his career, including a recent tear of his Achilles tendon last fall. He most recently competed in the TGL finals earlier this week, with his Jupiter Links GC team falling to the Los Angeles Golf Club.

According to ESPN, Woods was considering rejoining the tour to play in the Masters. It’s unclear if he suffered injuries that would prevent him from doing so.
This is Tiger Woods’ second major crash
Friday’s crash comes a little more than five years after he survived a life-threatening crash in the Los Angeles area. He suffered major injuries to his lower body, including a fractured right leg that required a metal rod to be inserted into the bone. He also underwent foot and ankle surgery and was hospitalized for several weeks.
Although one of the most decorated athletes in American sports history, Woods has had several off-the-field incidents that have prevented him from reaching the top of golf’s mountain, including a high-profile adultery scandal and another DUI arrest in 2017, also near Jupiter, Florida. In addition to his legal troubles, he has experienced several back and lower body injuries that have kept him off the links and may have robbed him of the final years of his prime.
Woods last competed on the PGA Tour in 2024.
