U.S. to release limited edition passport with Trump’s face

The U.S. State Department announced this week that a new, limited edition passport will be released in honor of the 250th anniversary of the nation’s founding. The passport, officials said, will feature President Trump’s face.

The limited edition ‘America250’ passports will feature Trump’s face and other America-centric imagery in the interior of the passport booklet, according to multiple reports. Images include the president’s signature in gold, as well as an illustration of the founding fathers signing the Declaration of Independence.

The White House shared preview images of the passport design across its social media accounts on Tuesday, calling it the “Patriot Passport.”

“As the United States celebrates America’s 250th anniversary in July, the State Department is preparing to release a limited number of specially designed U.S. passports to commemorate this historic occasion,” State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott said in a statement to media.

The new passports are expected to be released in July and will carry the same security features as a standard pass.

The announcement drew ire and condemnation from the president’s starkest critics, including California Governor Gavin Newsom, as well as praise from his most ardent defenders.

Trump passport is latest rebranding exercise by POTUS

This is the latest instance of the president inserting his likeness on official government buildings and documents, breaking with longstanding tradition of not including living leaders on federal properties.

Shortly after being sworn in for his second term as president, Trump announced that the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington would be renamed the Trump-Kennedy Center upon the facility’s reopening. In December 2025, the State Department added Trump’s name to the United States Institute of Peace.

Earlier this year, the National Park Service released its 2026 “America the Beautiful” National Park pass, which includes an image of Trump alongside George Washington. It marked the first time in history that a sitting president appeared on the pass, igniting controversy about the design decision.

Unlike the National Park pass, this commemorative passport won’t be launched nationwide. Rather, it will be available only at the Washington Passport Agency while supplies last.

Officials for the State Department said the Trump-focused passport will cost the same as a standard, non-Trump document.
