Could you survive four months at sea? If you’re riding in a luxury cruise ship and stopping at some of the most breathtaking sites on the globe, it might not be that bad.
A new 125-day luxury cruise departing from San Diego in 2029 will offer travelers access to more than 60 destinations across the Pacific Ocean.
The over-four-month journey focuses on “cultural immersion” through 19 countries, including rarely visited ports in the Philippines and French Polynesia.
The ambitious cruise is an offering from Silversea, a luxury travel brand which announced the itinerary for the voyage this week. The cruise has received a Hollywood-esque title, aptly named “A Pacific Awakening.”
Company officials say the multi-month cruise is scheduled to sail on the Silver Whisper cruise ship starting Jan. 5, 2029.
The voyage is designed to trace ancestral homelands and ancient navigation routes across the world’s largest ocean, a press release from the company states.
Travelers will spend more than four months exploring a diverse itinerary that spans Polynesia, Micronesia, Melanesia, Australia, Asia and New Zealand. The itinerary is divided into eight chapters that highlight different dimensions of the Pacific landscape, beginning with the volcanic archipelagos of Hawaii and the pristine reefs of French Polynesia, Silversea officials said.

After departing from California, the ship will observe the heritage of the Polynesian people with stops in Honolulu and Papeete.
The journey continues through the islands of Samoa and Fiji, where extended stays allow for engagement with local communities and ceremonial sites.
As the vessel moves toward New Zealand and Australia, the focus shifts to glacier-carved wilderness and the cultural energy of cosmopolitan cities such as Auckland, Melbourne and Sydney.
The cruise will also explore the southern coast of Australia, including visits to the nation’s wine regions.

After departing Australia, the cruise will head for the lush rainforests of Malaysia and the golden mosques of Brunei. A significant portion of the trip is dedicated to the Philippines, where guests can witness endemic wildlife and visit the Spanish colonial architecture of Vigan, a UNESCO World Heritage site, officials said.
The timing of the voyage is intended to coincide with the peak of the Sakura season in Japan, also known as the cherry blossom season.
Travelers will arrive in Tokyo as the country is covered in cherry blossoms, which are said to serve as a symbol of renewal. In Japan, culinary experiences will be the focus, including the ancient art of fermentation at a Zen retreat on Awaji Island.
The final segments of the trip include stops in China, South Korea and Thailand, focusing on imperial history and artistry. The journey includes an overland experience to Xi’an to visit the Terracotta Warriors and optional excursions to the Great Wall of China, officials said.

“The depth and variety of experiences around which we have designed our World Cruise 2029, A Pacific Awakening, is what makes it such a special journey,” said Bert Hernandez, president of the cruise line. Hernandez noted that the trip includes 17 overnight stays and dozens of immersive experiences that provide a deep connection to each destination.
The monthslong trip will also feature six signature events throughout the voyage. In Honolulu, guests will attend a private evening at the Iolani Palace, which is the only official royal residence in the United States. In Tasmania, a private performance by the 47-piece Tasmania Symphony Orchestra will take place at the historic Theatre Royal. Other highlights include a full-ship private island experience on Kalanggaman Island in the Philippines and a farewell seaside dinner at the Sanctuary of Truth in Thailand.
How big is the cruise?
Silversea officials said the Silver Whisper is one of the smallest luxury ships to host such an extensive world cruise. It accommodates only 392 guests, which means passengers will really have the opportunity to get to know each other over the four-month period.

But the smaller scale has its benefits, including allowing for entry into “hidden harbors and remote islands” that larger ships can’t reach.
Additionally, every guest on board is provided with a dedicated butler, and the ship maintains a nearly one-to-one crew-to-guest ratio, officials said.
Sales for the 2029 voyage begin April 21. Members of the the brand’s loyalty program, were granted early access to bookings on Tuesday. For more details, click here.
