New ‘Evil Dead’ entry gets own haunted house for Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights

The latest addition into Sam Raimi’s iconic “Evil Dead” franchise will step out of the big screen and into the real world for this year’s Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios theme parks.

On Tuesday, Universal announced that “Evil Dead Burn” would be the newest horror film to receive its own haunted house during the the annual Halloween festivals at both Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood.

Halloween Horror Nights begins on Aug. 28 in Orlando and Sept. 3 in Los Angeles. The annual event is the single largest theme park production for Universal, transforming the entire footprint of both parks into a nightmare-fueled interactive horror experience featuring masked and made-up characters roaming the park corridors, as well as terrifying walk-through haunted houses with production value you’d expect from one of the titans of entertainment.

This year, “Evil Dead Burn” will be among the new haunted houses making its debut. According to Universal Studios officials, the haunted house will “take guests on a terrifying firsthand journey through the film’s most frightening moments that begin at the Price family’s secluded vacation home in the woods.”

Terror only mounts as you venture deeper into the home, with the film franchise’s eponymous “Deadites” hidden around every corner, officials said.

“Evil Dead Burn,” which was released earlier this month, is the sixth film in the Evil Dead series, which first burst onto the scene in 1981 and became an independent cult classic in the horror genre. The film’s mix of dark humor and gross-out gore propelled director/creator Sam Raimi into mainstream stardom, and he has returned as producer for this latest installment.

The film series has its recurring throughlines, including the aforementioned Deadites, who are humans possessed by parasitic demons, as well as the Necronomicon—the Book of the Dead—which is at the center of everything.

“Evil Dead Burn” stars Souheila Yacoub, Tandi Wright, Hunter Doohan and Erroll Shand as members of the Price family, whose home you’ll explore as part of the new haunted house.

In addition to the interactive scares taking place this fall, fans of the Evil Dead franchise can purchase limited-release merchandise from the newest film, including t-shirts, hats and acrylic figures that are part of a larger “infernal carnival collectible display” featuring other cast and characters from Halloween Horror Nights.

These items debuted Tuesday inside both parks, and will be available for purchase online the following day.

Universal Studios officials say more merchandise will be revealed later this year.

When does Halloween Horror Nights start?

Tickets for Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Orlando Resort are available now. The Halloween Horror Nights Fear Pass, which includes repeat visits, comes with four different pass options. The enhanced Scream Early add-on ticket gives guests admission to the parks at 2 p.m., with early access to select haunted houses before the event officially starts. Discounts are also available for annual and seasonal passholders, officials said.

In Los Angeles, theme park guests have a variety of ticket options, including general admission or the Universal Express ticket. Early access tickets grant entry to select haunted houses around 5:30 p.m., and other options include afternoon arrival times and special themed guided tours. Tickets for Universal Studios Hollywood are available now.

Both parks host Halloween Horror Nights on select days through Sunday, Nov. 1.

In addition to “Evil Dead Burn,” Universal has announced three other haunted houses coming this fall, including the legendary horror franchise “Hellraiser,” the beloved Netflix streaming giant “Stranger Things,” and the Academy Award-winning vampire thriller “Sinners.”
