Fresh off announcing a new “Evil Dead” themed haunted house for the upcoming Halloween Horror Nights event, Universal Studios has announced another new wrinkle to the annual festival of frights inspired by one of the biggest video games of all time.
Beginning this fall, a portion of Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando Resort will transform into a dedicated scare zone inspired by Fortnite: Battle Royale and its signature Halloween event “Fortnitemares.”
Beginning Aug. 28 in Orlando and Sept. 3 in Los Angeles, guests to Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights can drop in to this dedicated Fortnite-inspired scare zone with “ever-evolving and high-stakes environments.”
Unlike haunted houses at Halloween Horror Nights, scare zones are outdoor sections of the theme park that often feature specific theming and costumed characters that roam the area in search of victims to scare.

Fortnitmares is an annual in-game event held during the fall that brings new characters and horror-themed gameplay into the massive Fortnite environment.
“Halloween Horror Nights puts a twisted spin on the global video game phenomenon, Fortnite, with an immersive and thrilling scare zone inspired the game’s signature Halloween event,” Universal officials wrote in a press release.
Now making its real-world debut at Universal, theme parks guests will have to brave the Freaky Fields, a Halloween-inspired battleground that has come to life. The scare zone features the iconic Battle Bus, familiar characters from the annual Fortnitemares events, and other characters unique to the Universal experience.
In addition to the new scare zone, Universal will also unveil new Fortnitemares merchandise, including a graphic t-shirt, decal set and an acrylic collectible piece. Universal’s acrylic figures are meant to be collected as part of a larger “infernal carnival collectible display,” which features other cast and characters from Halloween Horror Nights.
The merchandise is available for purchase at the parks now, while online sales begin at 9 a.m. PDT on Thursday.
When does Halloween Horror Nights start?
Tickets for Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Orlando Resort are available now. The Halloween Horror Nights Fear Pass, which includes repeat visits, comes with four different pass options.
The enhanced Scream Early add-on ticket gives guests admission to the parks at 2 p.m., with early access to select haunted houses before the event officially starts. Discounts are also available for annual and seasonal passholders, officials said.

In Los Angeles, theme park guests have a variety of ticket options, including general admission or the Universal Express ticket. Early access tickets grant entry to select haunted houses around 5:30 p.m., and other options include afternoon arrival times and special themed guided tours. Tickets for Universal Studios Hollywood are available now.
Both parks host Halloween Horror Nights on select days through Sunday, Nov. 1.
In addition to the “Fortnitemares” scare zone and the aforementioned “Evil Dead Burn” Haunted House, Universal will have other scary experiences inspired by other beloved franchises, including the legendary horror series “Hellraiser,” Netflix streaming giant “Stranger Things,” and the Academy Award-winning vampire thriller “Sinners.”
