Luxury airline Starlux celebrated the culture and contributions of its native Taiwan during a ballpark-wide pride celebration at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on Saturday, Aug. 1.
Game attendees were treated to a free stadium giveaway of Starlux-branded paddle fans during the mid-90s heat wave, and the airline helped coordinate the return of a trailblazing figure in baseball history.
Prior to the Dodgers matchup with the Boston Red Sox, former Dodger outfielder Chin-Feng Chen threw out the ceremonial first pitch, marking his return to Dodger Stadium after a four-year playing career in Los Angeles.

Chen is a sports icon in Taiwan, and debuted in 2002 as the first Taiwanese-born player in Major League Baseball history.
Throughout his four seasons as a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Chin-Feng Chen appeared in 19 total games, primarily as a pinch-hitter or left field sub. While his on-field contributions were modest, his impact as the first Taiwanese-born player in MLB history is something that can never be disregarded.
He was inducted into the Taiwan Baseball Hall of Fame in 2022, and currently manages his own team in the Chinese Professional Baseball League.
Starlux has been the official “Proud Partner” sponsor of Dodger Stadium since April 2023, and its recognizable branding can be seen around the park, particularly its all-caps* logo seen in the outfield amongst the row of the stadium’s iconic hexagonal shaped boards.

On Saturday, the airline gave back to Dodgers fans in the form of multiple stadium giveaways, as well as premium ticket giveaways for lucky fans. Select fans from the crowd were given roundtrip tickets courtesy of Starlux, with two fans winning premium economy tickets and two others getting business class seats.

This was the third Starlux Night at Dodger Stadium, which organizers said is held in celebration of the deep cultural and economic ties between Taiwan and Los Angeles.
“Each year the event grows more personal to the community it serves, and Chin-Feng Chen’s first pitch made this year’s chapter its most meaningful yet,” airline officials said.
What cities does Starlux Airlines service?
The Taiwan-based airline began service connecting Taipei to Los Angeles International Airport in March 2023, offering the transpacific flights five days a week and as frequent as daily—I covered the airline’s first announcement while at KTLA 5 in Los Angeles.
The airline has since expanded to San Francisco International Airport (SFO), Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA), Phoenix Sky Harbor (PHX) and the Ontario International Airport (ONT) in San Bernardino County, the latter of which has seen a record-breaking increase in international arrivals in recent years.
The airline also has several codeshare routes across the U.S. that are operated by partner airlines.

In addition to its U.S. services, Starlux has a wide swath of routes across Asia, providing significant connections for U.S. travelers to explore that corner of the globe.
This week, Starlux also launched its very first European service to Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic.

Starlux passengers travel aboard the airline’s new-generation Airbus A350s, which are configured into a premium, four-class layout of First Class, Business Class, Premium Economy and Economy standard.
Travelers in First and Business classes are entitled to private spaces with sliding doors and seats that recline into a “full-flat” alignment. Premium economy seats feature a leg rest and footrest bar.
Even the economy seats get an upgrade compared to most airlines, with leather headrests and a wider seat pitch. All ticket classes have seatback entertainment options and premium 4K screens, and the airline offers “chef-inspired” Taiwanese dishes on long-haul flights.
Despite the historic and cultural importance of this year’s Starlux Night at Dodger Stadium, for Dodgers fans, it was a night to forget as the team fell to the Boston Red Sox with a score of 3-2. The Red Sox swept the Dodgers at home during the three-game series, with the Red Sox scoring 20 total runs against Los Angeles’ 12.

During the game itself, news broke that the Dodgers agreed to a deal with the Detroit Tigers for two-time AL Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal, who is expected to make his Dodgers debut on Tuesday, Aug. 4.
