An international travel and trade publication has named its 50 best airlines for 2026, and one U.S.-based carrier tops the list.
Travel and Tour World released its annual list for the top 50 airlines in the world this past Saturday, naming Delta Airlines to the top of the global rankings.

“Delta Air Lines continues to reinforce its position as a global aviation leader through a powerful blend of network depth, fleet scale, and premium service strategy,” the publication wrote, highlighting Delta’s domination in transatlantic and transpacific offerings and its several high-powered service hubs across the U.S.

Travel and Tour World notes that passenger traffic is expected to exceed 4.7 billion this year, with nearly $1 trillion in revenue. That growth is notably linked to increased demand for long-haul and premium travel options, which Delta has in spades.
“With a fleet of nearly 1,000 aircraft, including advanced widebodies like the Airbus A350, A330, and Boeing 767, Delta maintains one of the world’s most robust long-haul operations,” the publication adds. “Looking ahead, the introduction of the A350-1000 and an extensive retrofit programme signal a strong premium push. Delta One suites offer privacy with full doors, while Premium Select enhances mid-tier comfort. Free Wi-Fi expansion and chef-curated, regionally inspired menus further elevate the onboard experience, reinforcing Delta’s premium-first positioning.”
Anup Kumar Keshan, founder and editor-in-chief of Travel And Tour World, said the industry is no longer defined solely by scale, but by intelligence, sustainability, and passenger-centric innovation.
What are the best airlines in the world?
Singapore Airlines landed at second place in the rankings, with the publication noting the carrier continues to set global benchmarks in long-haul aviation through its ultra-premium positioning and network strength. Emirates followed in third, with the report stating the airline dominates global aviation through its Dubai mega-hub, connecting over 150 cities across six continents.
Air Canada and Qatar Airways round out the Top 5 in the rankings. The second-highest rank U.S.-based carrier was United Airlines, which landed in the No. 7 spot.
“With a fleet exceeding 1,000 aircraft, [United] also ranks among the largest airlines by fleet size. United is undergoing a significant premium transformation, with the introduction of Polaris Studio suites expected from 2026. Its Polaris business class, Premium Plus, and economy cabins offer a tiered service approach catering to diverse passenger segments,” Travel and Tour World wrote. “Connectivity is improving with advanced satellite-based WiFi systems being deployed across the fleet.”

The rankings were crafted based on several parameters.
According to Travel And Tour World, the criteria include passenger comfort and cabin experience, fuel efficiency and sustainability, technological innovation, operational performance and reliability, safety record and engineering excellence, airline adoption and global popularity, passenger appeal and market perception, network strength, cost efficiency for airlines, and the choice of the publication’s readers.
